Sunday 20th October – bike **** x 2 rides - 1 – Bages etang to Peyraic,
2 – some of Gruissan bike route 6 – black run from fishing village.
Cloudy and Misty
Woke to thick fog:( After breakfast we biked round the vineyard track into
Peyraic to the bread shop and back via the road. Packed up and drove back
to Gruissan and parked up at the end of the canal where the surf shop is.
The onshore winds have made it very wavey and there were lots of surfers
and stand up paddle boarders out today. There was also a crazy jet skier
jumping really high off the waves! Several of the surfers were crossing
the canal on their boards just by the van to surf on the beach we usually
reach by the chicane route. We had lunch then I took of photos and
watched the many comings and goings! Just after 5 we left and went back to
our parking spot near the old fishing village and got the bikes off for the
second time today. We headed back through the fishing village and up into
the hills and met the mountain bike track number 6 (the hardest one here).
We did quite a big section of it but as it is over 30km long we never
intended to do it all! It was pretty bumpy and rocky all the way round but
one particular section you had to push your bike up a really steep and
narrow path and then at the top you were met by a sheer rock face which you
had to lift your bike up! It was great fun. Back to the van about 6.40 and
it got dark pretty soon afterwards as still foggy. It has lifted at odd
times during the day but generally misty and cloudy. There has also been
mozzies everywhere today! We are getting bitten to bits!
